Primate Care Training
Apes and monkeys need you.
PASA gives better lives to animals who were rescued from horrific abuse. It’s only possible with your support. We can’t do it without you!
The 23 member organizations of PASA rescue great apes and monkeys from unthinkable suffering. Many of the animals were orphaned by bushmeat hunters, some were crammed into small boxes to be smuggled overseas, and others were illegally held as pets in abusive situations.
High quality care is crucial to these animals, many of whom require specialized treatment to recover from the physical and psychological trauma they endured.
PASA is sending highly experienced instructors to the sanctuaries to provide customized training for all the animal care staff. Our goal is to empower the sanctuaries to give animals the best possible care.
Fernan-Vaz Gorilla Project in Gabon rescues gorillas who were victims of medical research and the illegal wildlife trade, with the aim of reintroducing them to the wild. Caroline Griffis recently spent two months at Fernan-Vaz, working closely with the staff and the gorillas.
Using her experience as a consultant and trainer at five other PASA member centers and her 19 years of experience as a primate behaviorist, Caroline gave the Fernan-Vaz team a deep understanding of gorilla behavior. Now they’re giving the gorillas more diverse food and natural enrichment, to reduce stress and keep the animals active through the day.
A Case in Point…
Kui came to Colobus Conservation in Kenya as a baby whose mother tragically died, leaving him orphaned and needing 24 hour care. He has been adopted by an adult female colobus monkey named Betsy. Colobus Conservation is determined to give him the best care possible until they release him to the wild.
Please donate today to improve the well-being of animals like little Kui who have been saved from tragedy.
The PASA Primate Care Training Program is made possible by a generous grant from Fondation Brigitte Bardot.
